DOT Physicals

All drivers (interstate or intrastate) are required by federal government to pass a medical examination conducted by a certified medical examiner prior to operating a commercial vehicle.

Certified Medical Examiner: Jeffrey K. Mincks, PA-C at Salina Occupational Medical Clinic, has received certification as a medical examiner by the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. He is now authorized to provide medical examinations to commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers in accordance with the regulations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. After May 21, 2014, all CMV drivers who are required to be medically certified must be examined and certified by a medical examiner listed on the National Registry.

Here’s what the DOT medical examiner is checking for:
  • Have you had a medical condition which poses a risk to safety?
  • Do you have symptoms that may indicate an undiagnosed condition?
  • Do you currently have a diagnosed condition?
  • Is the condition being treated?
  • Is the treatment effective, and safe, for you to drive a CMV?
  • Is the medical condition stable, and safe, for you to drive a CMV?

Here is a list of items to bring that may be helpful:

Glasses if vision requires a prescription
Hearing Aides
Last MER Card
List of medications with dosages
Yearly clearance letter from Cardiologist or for other chronic conditions may be required before clearance.
If you are a Diabetic on medication; bring your last labs with Hemoglobin and A1C.
If you have a history of sleep apnea and on a CPAP; bring your last CPAP reading with compliance percentage.
